Huiwen Xu, Ph.D. is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor at the School of Public and Population Health and the Sealy Center on Aging at University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Xu’s research focuses on the staffing, quality, disparity, and policy in nursing homes using large administrative and survey data. He is selected as an RL5 Pepper Scholar from UTMB Pepper OAIC Center and has recently received a 4-year $1.35 million R01 grant from the National Institute on Aging. Dr. Xu has published almost 60 peer-reviewed articles in leading medical and policy journals including The Lancet, JAMA Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, JAGS, JAMDA, Health Affairs, Health Services Research, and Medical Care; he coauthored one book chapter and 80+ scientific abstracts. His work has been cited 1,850+ times, with an H-index of 22. Dr. Xu is the President-elect of the China Health Policy and Management Society (CHPAMS) and holds national leadership positions at AcademyHealth, NIA AWARD Network for Dementia Workforce Research, and Cancer and Aging Group. Dr. Xu was an Associate Editor of BMC Health Services Research and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for over 20 scientific journals such as Lancet Oncology, JCO, AJPH, and JAMA Network Open. Dr. Xu received several national or international awards. He received his PhD in Health Services Research and Policy with Data Science training from the University of Rochester Medical Center.
