A senior executive and nationally recognized health policy expert, Amy Bassano has more than 20 years of experience in developing organizational vision and strategic plans, designing, and implementing payment systems, and driving change in the healthcare delivery system.

Ms. Bassano is the Managing Director of Medicare at Health Management Associates. She advises providers, manufacturers, associations, foundations and other clients on Medicare policy and regulatory topics including payments to providers, drug and device policies, value-based care and alternative payment model implementation. Ms. Bassano joined HMA after serving as the deputy director for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). As senior executive at CMMI, she oversaw the development and implementation of value-based purchasing models for Medicare and Medicaid.

Ms. Bassano spent more than 15 years at CMS and served in various Medicare leadership roles, including as director of the Hospital and Ambulatory Policy Group where she developed and implemented hospital, physician, Part B prescription drugs, clinical laboratory, and other acute care payment policies. She oversaw regulatory and sub-regulatory requirements for these providers and suppliers, and led implementation of multiple major pieces of legislation, including the Affordable Care Act for payment systems in the policy group. Earlier in her career she was a Budget Examiner at the Office of Management and Budget.

Ms. Bassano earned a master’s degree in policy studies from John Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Tufts University.
