The seminar will provide an overview of the set of PubMed specialized search filters for HSR, with an in-depth discussion of the HSR search algorithms developed for this purpose.  Information on a new search for "comparative effectiveness research", recently developed by librarians at the National Information Center on Health Services Research (NICHSR) will be introduced.  Questions from advanced users regarding the use of PubMed MeSH terms, and classification of HSR and CER within PubMed are welcome during the Q&A portion of the seminar.

Overview

HSRProj (Health Services Research Projects-in-Progress) and HSRR (Health Services and Sciences Research Resources) are two free online resources funded by the National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NLM). The two resources are coordinated by the NLM's National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR) and allow health services researchers to find the most up-to-date information for ongoing health services research (HSR) projects, find collaborators or funders, and review data and compare characteristics across datasets.

HSRProj contains descriptions on more than 12,000 ongoing and recently completed HSR projects funded by federal  and state agencies, foundations, universities, private organizations, and international institutions. Researchers can use this database to find the most up-to-date research projects in the field, find colleagues who may be interested in collaborating, and view funders of current and past HSR projects. HSRR is a searchable database of information about research datasets, instruments/indices and software. Users may review data and compare characteristics across datasets. Examples of HSRR data sources include: clinical records, discharge summaries, claims records, epidemiological surveys, surveys, and registries.
