Mao Amis is the Founder and Executive Director of the African Centre for a Green Economy (AfriCGE) and Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town. AfriCGE is a non-profit think tank, championing the ideals of a wellbeing economy in Africa. Prior to founding AfriCGE, Mao worked as a Programme for a leading global environmental NGO and for a management consultancy firm, both based in South Africa. He quit to set up the African Centre for a Green Economy in 2012. Mao has extensive experience on green growth and wellbeing issues in Africa and regularly consults and advices on the same issues to development agencies, government and the private sector across Africa and globally. His research interests are specifically in trying to understand the nexus between global change (environment) and human health and building community resilience against climate change. Mao holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Cape Town.
