Dr. Janet Cummings is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.  She is also the Deputy Director of the Region IV Mental Health Technology Transfer Center, a new center funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration that works to disseminate evidence-based mental health programs and practices in the Southeastern U.S. through in-person trainings, distance education, and technical assistance.  Dr. Cummings is a health services researcher, and she studies access to and quality of behavioral health services among underserved populations, with a particular emphasis on racial/ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic disparities in treatment.  Much of her work focuses on the role of safety-net systems and schools in helping to improve the accessibility of behavioral health care for underserved youth.  Her prior research has been supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, and her current projects are supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institute of Drug Abuse, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.  Dr. Cummings received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and her Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management from the University of California, Los Angeles.
