Call for Abstracts

AcademyHealth’s Disability Research Interest Group (DRIG) is composed of health services and policy researchers interested in care coordination, quality improvement, support services, assistive technology, and environmental changes for people with disabilities and chronic illness. The DRIG brings together a community of researchers, analysts, and persons with disabilities to share research findings on disability policy and practice in the U.S. and abroad.

The 2017 DRIG call for abstracts is now closed. The DRIG welcomes papers on improving coordination of services, disabling and chronic conditions, disability policy, health service use, or quality of care, among other topics broadly related to health and people with disabilities. A major theme of this year’s meeting will be improving our understanding of how policy affects healthcare access and use for persons with disabilities, and how health service use, in turn, affects health outcomes, independence, and employment. We are particularly interested in studies that include adults enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid (dual-eligibility).

Submission Deadline: January 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.mE.T.

Evaluation Criteria:

Submissions will undergo a blind peer review and will be evaluated by the following:

  • Importance of the topic for advancing health disparities research;
  • Appropriateness of techniques and methods;
  • Quality and originality;
  • Policy and practice implications; and
  • Clarity of writing and presentation.

Abstracts that are not selected for oral presentation may be selected for poster presentations.

For more information about the call for abstracts, please visit the Interest Group tab on the ARM website or contact AcademyHealth, at interest.group@academyhealth.org.

Meeting Structure

This year’s meeting will include two research panels and an informal networking session with poster presentations. DRIG meeting participants will vote for the best DRIG poster; the winner will receive the 4th annual Rene Jahiel Award for Excellence in Disability Research.

ARM Call for Abstracts: AcademyHealth believes the audience for work submitted to an IG is different from the audience at the main meeting, therefore welcomes you to submit your abstract to both calls. However, IG review committees will factor acceptance to the main ARM into their deliberations. An abstract that is accepted for podium presentation in the main ARM will not be permitted to have a podium presentation at an IG meeting but can be considered for an IG poster. Submissions to interest groups must be submitted separately to the specific IG. The deadline for submission to ARM is January 12, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. E.T.
