April 2007 Moderated Discussion

In celebration of Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) Week, April 8-14, The Health Information Technology Interest Group is sponsoring a discussion of the consumer in health information exchange.  Moderating that discussion will be Steven Findlay, a health care analyst at Consumers Union and managing editor of Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs.   Mr. Findlay's full bio can be found online

Also joining us for the beginning of the discussion will be Alison Rein, Assistant Director of Food and Health Policy for the National Consumers League and member of the American Health Information Community (AHIC) Workgroup on Confidentiality, Privacy and Security.  Ms. Rein's Bio can be found online.

HIPS Week, sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), is designed to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, their employers, and the public of the importance of protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal health information.  You can find out more at ahima.org/hipsweek

Mr. Findlay and Ms. Rein have recently framed the issues of health information technology and privacy quite nicely in an article in the January 15th edition of Modern Healthcare.
