Locate Research in the Pipeline

HSRProj Quick Search

  • Visit HSRProj: www.nlm.nih.gov/hsrproj.
  • Enter search terms in the query box.
  • Select the type of search (i.e., search for investigator/researcher; search for supporting/funding agency).
  • To conduct a more-tailored search, (i.e., searching through projects recently added to HSRProj; searching for projects funded in a particular year; searching for projects conducted in a particular state; searching through completed projects), click on the Limits button on the toolbar.
  • Enter search terms in the query box. If using Limits, enter the appropriate parameters.
  • Click the Search button.
  • A Results screen is displayed.
  • HSRProj records are displayed in a brief format, displaying the project title, full name of investigator, sponsoring agency, unique identifier number, and project status. Please note that HSRProj displays records in reverse chronological order of the project’s status. (For example, a project that has an end date of 2009 will appear before a project that has an end date of 2004.)
  • View the full record by clicking on the hyperlink of the project’s title.
  • Use the print function of your Web browser to print all the information displayed on your web page.

Is your project described in HSRProj?
Do you want to receive worldwide recognition for your contributions to solving today’s health care cost, quality, and access problems? Organizations that fund or perform health services research are encouraged to participate in the HSRProj database. Researchers are invited to submit a description of their current health services research project(s). Complete an online submission form.

How:

  • Enter search terms in the query box at the top of the page. You may enter one or more terms in the query box (e.g., “long term care”).
  • To indicate a phrase, enter double quotes (“”) around the phrase. Be sure to include all phrases, including author names, MeSH terms, etc., in quotes. For example, “long term care” or “Smith J.”
  • Click the Search button. (Please note: the query box is available from every screen. You do not need to return to the homepage to enter a new search.)
  • A Results Summary screen will appear.

This Results Summary screen shows:

  • The number of Items Found in each category, sorted by source.
  • A link for each category to see the retrieved items for each category.
  • To view the details of how the Gateway translated your search strategy for each category, click Search Details on the blue bar at the top of the screen.
  • HSRProj is part of the Other Information Resources Category. To show your results, click on the appropriate blue link. (Clicking on any word in the Category Column, e.g., “Other Collections,” will link you to a table that details what kind of information is found in each Category.)

 

Display Formats:

  • Search results are initially displayed in an abbreviated format that shows the title of the project, and the name of the Principal Investigator.
  • Click on the Project Title to view the full record.

Print/Download or Display:

  • The Select an action pull-down menu allows you to select a format for the downloading or displaying of the record(s). Choices include: download/display, send via e-mail, and put in locker.


  • You may choose to download or display all HSRPRoj records from your search or only selected records. To download or display selected records, select the items by clicking in the small box to the left of the project name in the brief or expanded display.
  • Select Download/Display under the “Select an action” pull-down menu, and click Go.
  • Use the Fetch pull-down menu to select the number of items to download or display. The maximum number of items for downloading or displaying at one time is 500. The default number of items is 20.
  • The Results from field shows which items will be downloaded or displayed. If you had selected items by clicking in the small box to the left of the project name, Selected Items will appear in this field. If you had not selected any items, the category/source you selected will appear in this field.
  • Use the Destination pull down menu to select how the items are to be downloaded or displayed. Choices include: Display in Browser, Display for Printing, and Save to File.
  • Use the Details pull down menu to select the display format. Choices include: Brief, Expanded, or Complete.
  • Use the Format pull down menu to select Unlabeled, Labeled (select the latter to label each field with the full field name), or Export (select this to label each field with the field name abbreviation).
  • Use the Download or send as pull down menu to select Text or HTML.
  • Click on Go. If you had selected the Display for Printing option, the records will be sent to your printer.
