Edward Sondik, Ph.D., Director of the National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, announced today that he will step down this spring to spend more time with his family. As the leader of the nation’s principal health statistics agency, Dr. Sondik has been an advocate for data and analysis in public health, and a key driver of NCHS efforts to expand the national surveys, modernize the collection of vital statistics, and develop technologies and analytic tools necessary to meet the research community’s needs.

AcademyHealth greatly appreciates Dr. Sondik’s leadership and vision. It has been our great pleasure to work with him to support the collection of data vital to the work of our field, and we wish him well.
