AcademyHealth Awards

•  Distinguished Investigator
The Distinguished Investigator Award recognizes investigators who have made significant and lasting contributions to the field of health services research through scholarship and teaching, advancement of science and methods, and leadership. Nominations must include a curriculum vitae.

•  Alice S. Hersh New Investigator
The Alice S. Hersh New Investigator Award recognizes the contribution of new scholars to the field of health services research. Eligible nominees are those whose first research appointments were no earlier than January 1, 2001. Post-doctoral positions will be considered research appointments unless these years provided training necessary for entry into the field. In addition, the eligibility period may be extended for a nominee who has taken a formal leave of absence from their employer. Nominees from academic and non-academic institutions are encouraged. Nominations must include one letter of nomination (no more than two pages) that reviews the nominee's contribution to the field and specifies the date of the nominee's first research appointment, and must include curriculum vitae.

•  Article-of-the-Year Award
The Article-of-the-Year Award recognizes the best scientific work that the fields of health services research and health policy have produced and published. While most entries will consist of a single article, collections of articles resulting from a single study are also eligible for the award. Using either qualitative or quantitative techniques, articles may present, analyze, and comment on new data, or may synthesize and analyze data that have already been collected. Special consideration will be given to articles that produce new insights and have the potential to change current thinking. Articles must have been published in a peer-reviewed journal between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007. Nominations must include a copy of the article(s).

•  Dissertation Award
The Dissertation Award recognizes an outstanding scientific contribution from a doctoral thesis in health services research or health policy during 2007. The work must demonstrate an innovative approach or significant advancement toward understanding issues in the field, and the nominee must demonstrate exceptional promise. Nominations must include a copy of the dissertation, a letter of endorsement from the nominee's mentor, who may also be the nominator, and a synopsis of the dissertation (no longer than two pages).

All awardees receive complimentary registration and lodging to attend the Annual Research Meeting. The Alice S. Hersh New Investigator Awardee receives a $2,500 prize from the Alice S. Hersh Memorial Fund.
