AcademyHealth Annual Report 2003

2003 Products and Publications

n 2003, AcademyHealth produced a wealth of publications that are relevant to health services researchers and health policymakers, ranging from newsletters to issue briefs to monographs and special reports. Each of our programs disseminated useful findings, analyses, and research summaries to a variety of target audiences. Our publications last year were key resources on a broad range of substantive areas, including bioterrorism preparedness, end-of-life care, obesity, and state health policy.

AcademyHealth Reports

Our quarterly membership newsletter provides news on AcademyHealth activities and issues of interest to health services researchers and health policymakers. In 2003, the newsletter featured member profiles, coverage of major issues and presentations discussed at our meetings, such as a new universal health insurance proposal and perspectives on Medicare reform, and relevant research and policy topics, including knowledge transfer and international health.

Sponsored Newsletters

The purpose of the sponsored newsletters—Frontlines, Connection, and Forum—is to highlight how research is being used to influence policy and practice and, ultimately, to improve health and health care within the alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and veterans’ health care delivery systems. Frontlines, Connection, and Forum are sponsored by the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the VA Health Services Research & Development Services (VA HSR&D), respectively.

Each newsletter is published twice a year (with occasional supplements) and is eight pages in length. Topics featured in 2003 ranged from workforce challenges and the cost of providing care in the Veteran’s Administration, to substance abuse prevention and the demand for alcohol treatment services.
