Content:
This Web conference will highlight key design-related decisions associated with quality-based payment schemes. Is your community ready for quality-based payment? Which providers should you target first - hospitals or physicians? Is it better to use a 'carrot' or a 'stick' approach? Should purchasers incent providers by using bonuses, withholds, or a combination? How can a quality-based payment scheme enhance existing public report card initiatives? For each of these decisions and others, a panel of health services researchers and purchasers will share evidence, guidance, and practical experiences. In addition, participants will hear the latest findings on pay-for-performance. The Web conference will feature the AHRQ-supported tool, Pay-for-Performance: A Decision Guide for Purchasers, and the latest findings on quality-based purchasing from a recent special supplement of the Medical Care Research and Review.
Following this Web conference, participants should be better able to:
- Describe key design decisions that need to be made in contemplating, implementing, and evaluating pay-for-performance initiatives;
- Explain some of the evidence and experiences of public and private purchasers as they have grappled with these design decisions;
- Describe findings from the latest research on pay-for-performance; and
- Identify AHRQ-supported and other resources regarding quality-based payment strategies.
