Marian
B. Mankin, M.Ed. As director, Marian Mankin oversees the day-to-day operations of the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting, the premier forum for disseminating new health services research, debating current health policy issues, and learning about new methodologies and resources. She is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the conference of over 2,000 participants and coordinating the program with over 500 conference faculty. She is responsible for the full day seminars in health services research methods, offered before and after the Annual Research Meetings. In addition, she consults on planning other national and international AcademyHealth educational programs. At the Association for Health Services Research, Marian contributed to the development of HSRProj, the National Library of Medicine database listing health services research projects funded by the federal government and private foundations. Before that, she collaborated with the authors in the production of Improving Health Policy and Management: Nine Critical Research Issues for the 1990's, for which she developed the catalog of ongoing health services research projects relating to the book's chapter topics. Prior to joining AHSR in 1989, Marian taught elementary school in Fairfax, County, Virginia. She also worked as an assistant editor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. While raising three daughters, she was actively involved in PTA activities and community service projects. Marian earned an undergraduate degree in religion and education from Meredith College and a master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tel:
