Building Bridges: Making a Difference in Long-Term CareThe Commonwealth Fund and AcademyHealth's strategic initiative, Building Bridges: Making a Difference in Long-Term Care provided an opportunity for long-term care stakeholders to exchange information, debate the issues, seek solutions, and identify where additional research is needed. The initiative sought to foster development of a network of long-term care researchers, policy leaders, providers, consumer representatives, and funders through a series of annual colloquia and ongoing workgroup discussions among conference participants and others. Each year the Building Bridges Initiative hosted a Policy Seminar held in conjunction with the National Health Policy Conference and a Colloquium held in conjunction with the Annual Research Meeting. Both events provided the opportunity for policymakers and researchers to come together to dialogue about important issues in long-term care, related policy issues, and solutions that take into account provider, state, and federal-level concerns. These events were designed to help address critical LTC policy and practice issues. The kick-off colloquium was held on Saturday, June 5, 2004 in San Diego, California. It featured an impressive lineup of speakers and focused on two important issues: the use of information and information-based strategies for promoting quality improvement in long-term care, and the challenges of providing long-term care to the dual-eligible population. The Building Bridges initiative supported the publication and dissemination of articles and issue briefs based on themes explored by annual Colloquia and Policy Seminars. Archive of the Initiative |
