15 Easy Ways to Get Involved with AcademyHealth
AcademyHealth is your association. Make the most of your membership by getting involved in one of the many opportunities listed below. Participation creates new opportunities to learn from and network with the leaders who are shaping the field of health services research and health policy. - Submit an abstract to the Annual Research Meeting (ARM). Presentation of cutting-edge health services research is the cornerstone of the ARM, offering opportunities for researchers to share important findings with policymakers and providers who can put the research into action. - Help define the ARM agenda as an abstract reviewer for the Annual Research Meeting or InterestGroups programs. For more information email Anna Lafayette.
- Offer feedback as a resume reviewer at the Career Center at the Annual Research Meeting. For more information email Patrick Burbine.
- Post a position opening or look for an employment opportunity on our Career Center Webpages. For more information email membership staff.
- Join an Interest Group. Interest Group members have an opportunity to exchange knowledge, disseminate research findings, inform policy and clinical decision-making, build research skills, and network with those sharing common goals. For more information email membership staff.
- Start a discussion on one of the Interest Group list serves.
- Volunteer to serve on the advisory committee for an Interest Group. For more information email Alison Farley.
- Add your research project to HSRProj - a database containing descriptions on more than 7,500 current health services research projects funded by government and state agencies, foundations, and private organizations. For more information email Beth Henry.
- Join the HSR methods online community. Join researchers interested in HSR methods and receive the Methods Minute, a bi-monthly newsletter which provides highlights, additions, and news on new Professional Development opportunities and HSRMethods.org. For more information email Beth Henry.
- Apply for a scholarship. The Alice S. Hersh Student Scholarship and the Public Health Systems Research Student Scholarships help students take advantage of AcademyHealth meetings. For more information email membership staff.
- Start a student chapter or volunteer to be a faculty advisor for a student chapter at your local university. For more information email membership staff.
- Nominate candidates for the AcademyHealth Board. Watch for the call for online nominations in January. And remember to vote for Board members - you'll be notified by email when voting opens. For more information email Bonnie Austin.
- Volunteer to serve on an AcademyHealth committee. For more information email Jane Brookstein.
- Become an advocate. Join the mailing list of the Coalition for Health Services Research, the advocacy arm of AcademyHealth. Get regular updates about appropriations, legislation, and ways you can advance the field of health services research. For more information email April Falconi.
- Spread the word. Distribute AcademyHealth membership materials to your colleagues and/or students, and show them how valuable AcademyHealth membership is in advancing their career, sharing their research, networking, and keeping up-to-date on the latest information on health services research and health policy.
