On June 27, 2009, researchers, students, practitioners, and policymakers met in Chicago, IL for the sixth annual Long-Term Care Colloquium. The colloquium is part of a project sponsored by The Commonwealth Fund and conducted by AcademyHealth that seeks to create a high-performing system of long-term care (LTC) by moving research into policy and practice. To achieve this end, the colloquium fosters conversation and collaboration on important questions among myriad long-term care stakeholders. Long-Term Care Financing Reform: Lessons from the U.S. and Abroad

This session focused on LTC financing reform with lessons from the U.S. and abroad including topics such as experimentation with tax credits, price elasticity of private LTC insurance, and the Partnership Initiative. It also included lessons learned from Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Intersection of LTC and End-of-Life Care

This session focused on the current important delivery problems and challenges in the last years of life, including the various silos of LTC and end-of-life care (acute, chronic, palliative, etc.), as well as the philosophies that tend to drive the actions of professional, paraprofessional, institutional, and non-institutional providers.
